Lanjarón opens the doors of the region of la Alpujarra between Sierra Nevada and the Mediterranean Sea, displaying in its splendour in a variety of contrasts whichever the season. Its villages of white houses and cobbled streets, nestling on the mountain slopes, form a colourful and different place that has kept its peculiar ways of life intact and a picturesque aspect inherited from the Andalusian heritage. The town of Lanjarón is renowned for the quality and diversity of its water, considered to be the water of life, health and eternal youth.
The course of the waters that descend from the impressive Sierra Nevada mountain range, home of the highest peaks of the Iberian Peninsula, create a landscape of contrasts flooded with many varieties of flora and fauna native to the area and declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO
Besides being an ideal place for relax and rest, this region has a very wide range of activities to enjoy the surroundings. The GR-7 route, a long path linking Andalucía to Greece, starts at La Ragua and ends at Lanjaron (where the GR-142 also ends). Sports that can be developed in the area are climbing, mountaineering, skiing, mountain biking, horse riding, paragliding, canoeing and fishing.
Crafts, cuisine and festivals are part of the traditions and customs that the area has preserved, creating its own identity and attracting the tourists who come each year to enjoy them. The cuisine of La Alpujarra is an attraction in itself. Prestigious products are the Trevélez ham, always present in the substantial dish known as Plato Alpujarreño, high quality wines from the land and Arab pastries with honey.
The monumental city of Granada is only 49 kilometres away from Lanjarón, completing the cultural diversity of the area.
